It's Friday -- Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

"On this day, Prince sat at a podium in the bowels of the stadium with Jadyn and Haven. His Rangers teammates and coaches filled the interview room. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place. Fielder, wearing an uncomfortable neck brace, announced the end of his 12-year major league career by decree of his doctors."

  • The longest active civil case on the docket in Wise County is headed back to the trial court after an appellate court ruling yesterday.
  • Yes, there was a road rage shooting yesterday morning. We don't know much about it, but Fort Worth PD had there current class of cadets walking the freeway for potntiial evidence.

  • "A civil lawsuit claims King received at least one report of teacher Paul Campbell inappropriately touching a student but failed to investigate or notify law enforcement."

  • Oh my.

  • Oh, the horror!

  • A wreck in McKinney yesterday gave rise to a heck of a photo.

  • There will still be a state court case pending against Mangione, and the U.S. Constitution's double jeopardy clause does not prevent it.  However, New York has it's own wonky double jeopardy law which provides more protection than the constitution.   At least that will give his lawyer's something to argue.

  • We've used 45 of them at $50 million each.

  • The Business Second™. The U.S. Government looked for a $25 billion loan yesterday. It took an interest rate of 5.216% before investors could be found. That's the highest rate since 2001.

  • Random volleyball note:

  • Stewart Bass. He was 66.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 7 years and 40 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

The Summer Olympics were wrapping up in Rio de Janeiro.

  • Local news channels flocked to Chico yesterday.

  • The rescue by Wise County Sheriff deputies has made it to CNN:

  • The carrier has been deployed for more than eight months -- a modern day record -- with 5,000 servicemen on board. Story.

  • And another. This time with tragic results.

  • Cursing while speaking at the public forum part of a Commissioner's meeting is not illegal, and it's not even a close issue.
    • So what did he say?:"You said you're all about cooling the temperature and yet you vote for this extremist bullshit. All of you are bullshit.”

  • Someone might have been shot and killed while driving to work this morning in Fort Worth.

  • Make it stop. And with high winds today, there is a serious fire danger.

  • I bet they don't convict her.  Side note: He attorney has a very grump style, but it is very effective.

  • In her very first press briefing, she said, "I commit to telling the truth from this podium every single day."  That was her first lie, and they never stopped.

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

A short collection of bullet points from 2016 (with a little foreshadowing
about the remake of Top Gun.)

  • Wise County made the CBS Evening News last night on a rescue of a person from a burning car after a crash. It was a 14 second segment, but looked pretty dramatic. (h/t BagOfNothing)

  • Elections:
    • The MyPillow Guy went down despite His Leader trying to boost him up yesterday.

    • A Democratic Socialist came very close to winning the nomination for Wisconsin Governor. (That was the "cancel Thanksgiving" candidate.)

    • Former NFL sideline reporter for NBC but she's worked for every major network.

  • I wonder if the "general aviation aircraft" was just some guy in his Cessna.

  • Every appellate opinion I ever see about governmental immunity, the government wins. But I still see massive settlements, like Fort Worth is going to do, all the time.

  • All 17 years old.

  • A president should never ask the Justice Department to prosecute anyone, Now we just collectively shrug our shoulders when Trump does so even when there are no facts to support it.
  • Good question.

  • What are we doing here?
