It's Friday, Let's Get Out of Here

Random Friday Morning Thoughts

He will say the next day that he was just being "sarcastic."

  • Messenger - Above the Fold (I forget yesterday)
  • Traffic alert from yesterday afternoon: You don't see that every day.

  • Wise County State Rep. Andy Hopper will speak at the far right wing True Texas event in Fort Worth where he will give a couple of Islamophobia based lectures.    When he's not obsessed with gays and trans people, he's Muslim-bashing.  (He still hasn't learned to pass a Wise County water bill, though.)

  • They tried him once and ended up with a hung jury, so now prosecutors do this.  They might want to focus on the hundreds of files of regular crime they have in their office.

  • Busy week for cops and DWI arrests.  It occurred in Springtown where he lives.

  • That's big. And not very far away.

  • It's a wild scene in that little piece of property controlled by Spain.   Rough estimates place 50,000 people entering that territory in the last 24 hours.  Heck, the whole population of the area is 83,000, and it's only seven square miles.

  • Conservatism isn't what it used to be.
  • The Business Second™.  New earnings reports were released within the last 24 hours.

  • Legal nerdy stuff: A couple arrested in a national fraud scheme are being held in the Tarrant County Jail on state charges with bonds of $25 million and $30 million. That is, until the Fort Worth Court of Appeals said yesterday the bond amounts were  "beyond the pale."  The defense lawyer is Gregg Gallian out of Dallas. The lower court judge is Andy Porter.
  • Lauren Whitener Clock: 7 years and 26 days.

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

He spent 35 years incarcerated.

  • I don't remember anything like this happening in the past.

  • Partied in Keller. Stopped in Lewisville.

  • I haven't followed this story very closely but, generally speaking, a lawyer in a three piece suit is a bad look.  But a lawyer wearing only the vest of the three piece suit is a horrible look.

  • John Cornyn finally grew a backbone, but I fully expect him to eventual cave on this.

  • War Update - bombs are still flying:

  • ICE update:

  • We now live in a world where TMZ serves as the voice of reason in the wilderness.

  • Man, he must be worried about his campaign.

  • Texas Monthly responding to ex-comedian Rob Schneider's social media post

  • Please don't have a baby.

  • Twenty-five years ago, the Andrea Yates trial happened in Houston. A new version of it is going on in Massachusetts right now where Lindsay Clancy admittedly killed her three children.  Here's a photo of her defense lawyer holding her hand in court yesterday. Good on him.

  • I'm no country and western music expert, but Ella Langley seems to have no stage presence whatsoever.

Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

The stage was set. Clinton vs. Trump.

  • Fox 4 has picked up on the activity of ICE in Wise County.

  • The one hour and seven minute police video of Tony Romo's arrest and field sobriety tests were released.  This case, which is the equivalent of a traffic ticket in Wisconsin, isn't going anywhere.

  • Happening now: Dr. Fauci is invoking the Fifth Amendment at a Senate hearing this morning. This will be played on a loop on Fox News for a week. They even have show host Laura Ingraham in the audience.

    • Edit: Fauci's lawyer just got thrown out of the hearing. Oh, my.
  • Let's check in on how the Memo of Understanding was holding up last night:

  • This is a crazy (and entertaining) story. Gift link.

  • China seems to be a problem on lots of fronts:
    • War:

    • Robots:

    • AI:

  • I don't know how this guy got this puff piece written about him. Side note: He's not a "litigator" and even says so in the article.  Gift link.

  • "Singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who won a 2008 Oscar for the song 'Falling Slowly' from the film 'Once, died Wednesday morning." It was a motorcycle accident in Ireland. He was 56.
